Charlie is originally from Muncie, Indiana and after high school graduation in January 1975; he immediately enlisted in the U.S. Army. Upon discharge in 1978, Charlie returned to Muncie and began his law enforcement career with the Ball State University Police Department. Charlie graduated from the 57th Session of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in 1979, of which he was Class President. After approximately 2 years Charlie joined the Muncie Police Department, which provided opportunities to work in Operations, Communications, K-9 Handler and Criminal Investigations. In 1985, he received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Ball State University.
Charlie has served with distinction in the United States Army and with both active and reserve duty, has over twenty years of honorable service to his nation. His active duty time includes service in Operation Desert Storm where he was a Platoon Leader.
Charlie rose through the enlisted ranks, obtained a Warrant Officers appointment, then an Officers Commission, ultimately retiring from the Army Reserve. Charlie has a vast amount of experience and training for the job as Delaware County Sheriff including managing budgets, functioning as a purchasing agent, and accounting for hundreds of millions of dollars of equipment as a Logistics Officer with the Army.
Charlie has served on the Board of Directors of the Mesquite Credit Union and on United Way Campaigns. He is a member of the Ft Wayne Scottish Rite, Hella Shriners, Selma American Legion Post #437 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #7081 of Dunkirk.
Currently Charlie serves as Chief Deputy Auditor of Delaware County.
Charlie and his Wife Kathi will celebrate their 35th Wedding Anniversary in September.
They have three children, two daughters and a son.
